Find a Solicitor

Did you know that if you search by city on the Law Society's website search facility you will NOT get all the firms in a given city? See my blog for more - click Here

A Glitch

If you have tried to email to the address in the left hand margin recently your message may have bounced. For some reason no one can work out the forwarding seems to have re-set itself without human intervention. Computers....!

Please may I apologise - It is working now and I'd be very happy to hear from you.

Money Laundering Compliance – Do you charge?

Saw a letter from a stockbroker the other day, advising clients that they were increasing their compliance charge to £15 per bargain for nominee clients, £20 for clients holding their own certificates.

Now, I know that FSA rules are complex and I am not at all sure how the hoops they have to jump though compare with ours, but it gets you thinking doesn’t it?

Have you analysed the time your staff spend on ML compliance? And then considered what charge you make, if any? Might be worthwhile……..

Did you finance your PI insurance premium through Key Business Finance?

If so you MUST stop any further payments until the situation becomes clear.

See Tom's Blog for the reason why. It's all down to the Icelandic banking crisis.

3/11/08 - Further note added - If you've been caught you may have a claim against your insurer. Click Here

Welcome to the Legal Practice Management Forum.

The 50 or so pages on here may help if you manage a law firm. I have been doing this kind of work for ten years now and I hope you will find some useful ideas that will help you in your work.

There is a wide range of material, from current Law Society recommended salaries for trainee solicitors to ideas for effective ways to collect from your slow-paying clients, from the rules on paternity leave to a sound template for a complaints procedure.

The site is getting good numbers of visitors but I have been slighly disappointed by the modest amount of feedback. I always intented that it should be a shared resource, one to which as many people as possible contributed, so do please send in your ideas for inclusion.

And if you need something but cannot find it let me know. I will happily do the research and publish the information here.

Abbreviation: Rather than writing "fee earner" dozens of times, which always sounds a bit clumsy, in this site I have used simply "FE"
